The BS 5150 flanged cast iron gate valve is a type of gate valve, made in accordance with BS 5150 from either grey cast iron or spheroidal graphite cast iron, that features flanges on both the inlet and outlet sides of the valve body. These body flanges are used to connect the valve to the pipeline system by means of bolts and gaskets, making installation and removal easier. This is particularly useful for maintenance and repair purposes. The flanges, furnished with raised face (RF) or flat face (FF), also provide a secure connection and ensure proper alignment of the valve with the piping system.

The BS 5150 flanged cast iron gate valve can be furnished with a rising or non-rising stem. Depending on the temperature, pressure, fluid compatibility, sealing requirements, and other working conditions, the flanged gate valves may be furnished with metal-to-metal seating or resilient (soft) seating.Usually, the closure member of the valve is a wedge-shaped gate instead of parallel gate. The purpose of the wedge shape is to introduce a high supplementary seating load that enables the valve to seal not only against high, but also low, fluid pressures. There are several variations of wedge design for BS 5150 cast iron gate valves: solid wedge, flexible wedge, split wedge or double disk.

The body flange drilling dimensions for BS 5150 flanged cast iron gate valves with nominal pressures PN6, PN10, PN16, and PN25 shall comply with BS 4504 Section 3.2, available for sizes from DN10 to DN1000. The body flange drilling dimensions for BS 5150 flanged cast iron gate valves with nominal pressures Class 125 and Class 250 shall comply with BS 1560 Section 3.2, available for sizes from 1/2″ to 24″. These drilling dimensions for flanges are specified in terms of outside diameter of flange (D), bolt circle diameter (K), bolt hole diameter (L), and number of bolt holes (n).
