SJZ Metalsin supplies metal seated cast iron gate valves with rising stem (OS&Y design), which are made in accordance with BS 5150. Generally, these valves are furnished with flanged ends (raised face) available in sizes DN50 ~ DN600 and pressures PN6, PN10, PN16 and PN25. The body and bonnet are made of cast iron, either grey cast iron (for PN6 & PN10) or spheroidal graphite cast iron (for PN16 & PN25). The maximum heights (H) at fully open position and the face-to-face dimensions of the valve shall be in accordance with BS 5150. Our MTS-GV611 series cast iron gate valves are furnished with metal seated sealing design, in which copper alloy rings are embedded/ inserted respectively in the seating positions of the wedged gate and the valve body. When the valve is closed, the copper alloy sealing surfaces tightly adhere to each other to form a seal.
As illustrated in the drawing, the gate is attached to the handwheel through the valve stem, which is fixed to the gate. This is known as “rising stem” design, in which the fixed-gate stem does not turn with the handwheel but stays stationary with the gate. As the handwheel is turned, the threads (which are located above the packing box) retract the gate from the flow stream, causing the threaded portion of the stem to rise above the handwheel. The BS 5150 rising-stem cast iron gate valve features the outside screw & yoke (OS&Y) construction. The “outside screw” refers to the threaded stem that connects to the gate inside the valve body and extends outside the valve bonnet. This screw being located outside the valve body makes it easily visible and accessible for operation. It also serves as a visual indicator of the valve position (open or closed) and allows for easy maintenance and adjustment. The “yoke” is a structural component of the gate valve that supports and guides the movement of the stem. It is typically a sturdy, external framework surrounding the stem, extending from the valve bonnet to the handwheel or actuator. The yoke provides stability and rigidity to the valve assembly, ensuring smooth operation of the stem and gate. It also serves to protect the stem from external damage.
As illustrated in the technical drawing, the main valve parts of BS 5150 metal-seated gate valves with OS&Y (MTS-GV611 series) include: (1) body; (2) seat rings; (3) wedge inserted ring; (4) wedge; (5) stem; (6) body gasket; (7) bolts; (8) nuts; (9) bonnet; (10) back seat bushing; (11) packing; (12) packing gland; (13) gland follower bolts; (14) gland follower nuts (15) gland follower; (16) yoke bushing; (17) yoke bushing nut; (18) screw; (19) handwheel; (20) identification plate; (21) handwheel nut; (22) yoke.
