Motorized Wafer Butterfly Valves with Electric Actuators

January 4, 2025

Metalsin supplies motorized wafer butterfly valves with electric actuators to water supply and water treatment pipelines. They are also known as electric actuated wafer butterfly valves. The term “motorized” refers to that the valve is operated by an electric actuator, which serves as the driving force by converting electrical energy into mechanical motion to rotate the valve disc. It typically includes an electric motor that generates rotational force, coupled with a gear reduction system to increase torque, enabling the valve to operate effectively under pressure conditions. Integrated limit switches prevent over-rotation by stopping the motor at fully open or closed positions, while sensors or potentiometers provide real-time feedback on the valve’s position, ensuring precise control over its open, closed, or intermediate states. The electric actuator is a critical component designed to provide precise and automated flow control in waterworks applications. Built to handle the demanding conditions of waterworks, they offer advanced features such as on-off operation, proportional modulation, and intelligent feedback, ensuring efficient and reliable performance. Compatible with various voltage options (AC 220V, AC 110V, DC 24V, etc.), they integrate seamlessly into automated systems for remote control and monitoring. The electric actuators also feature robust designs with options like LED displays, torque protection, and waterproof or explosion-proof capabilities.

The butterfly valve features wafer type body construction, which has the shortest face-to-face dimensions and can be secured by through stud bolts between two pipe flanges of different piping components. The wafer butterfly valve is lightweight and compact, making it suitable for limited-space applications. When used for waterworks pipelines, the valve is usually soft seated using synthetic rubber such as EPDM or NBR. The valve body is made from ductile iron in accordance with ASTM A536 Gr. 65-45-12. The shaft (stem) is made of stainless steel Type 420 or 431. The disc material may be ductile iron (nickel plated), CF8/CF8M, or aluminum bronze. The disc is usually pinned to the one-piece through shaft. The bushing of the butterfly valve reduces friction between the stem and valve body, ensuring smooth operation, while providing support and alignment for the stem and disc. It is may be made from PTFE or brass.
