Main Design Features

SJZ Metalsin supplies AWWA C500 NRS metal seated gate valves for water supply service. These valves are furnished with a non-rising stem for limited space installation and flanged ends in accordance with ASME B16.1 Class 125. Both the body and bonnet are made from ductile cast iron (ASTM A395 or A536) or grey cast iron (ASTM A126 Gr.B). They are generally available in sizes 2″ through 24″ with design working water pressure 250 psi. The AWWA C500 NRS metal seated gate valve may be operated by a handwheel, T-key, gearbox, electric or pneumatic actuator.

The most notable feature of AWWA C500 NRS metal-seated gate valves is the metal-to-metal sealing formed by a pair of copper alloy seat rings made of bronze (ASTM B62 UNS C83600) or brass (ASTM B16 UNS C36000). The copper alloy body-seat rings are mounted sufficiently deep on the recesses of the bottom/shoulder of the valve body. For economic considerations, the valve wedge is usually made of ductile iron or grey cast iron, with the wedge-seat rings pressed/embedded into grooves machined in the wedge. These seat rings shall be made with a cross section stiff enough to resist accidental deformation during handling and assembly. The seating surfaces of the body-seat ring and wedge-seat ring in contact with each other shall be very smooth and accurately machine finished to ensure a watertight seal.
