At Metalsin, we supply ductile iron Y strainers with flanged ends for waterworks and fire protection systems. The Y-pattern strainer, often simply called the Y strainer, is a vital filtration device used in piping systems to protect equipment by removing impurities from fluid streams. Its unique Y-shaped design is engineered to create an efficient separation of contaminants from the fluid. As the fluid enters the strainer, it splits along two distinct paths: one allows the clean fluid to continue flowing downstream, while the other collects debris and particles in a dedicated chamber. This design minimizes turbulence and pressure drop, ensuring that the system operates smoothly while also making maintenance easier.

In waterworks systems, the flanged Y-strainer prevents particulate matter from entering sensitive equipment, thereby protecting valves, pumps, and other components from damage and reducing the risk of blockages. In firefighting systems, where even a minor obstruction can be critical, the flanged Y strainer ensures that water flows freely and reliably by trapping debris that could otherwise compromise the system during an emergency. Built from robust, durable materials and featuring a fine perforated mesh, the Y strainer is designed to withstand harsh conditions while providing easy access for cleaning and inspection. Overall, its reliable performance and low maintenance requirements make it an indispensable component in maintaining the efficiency and safety of both infrastructures.
The flanged Y strainer is engineered for optimal performance and ease of use, boasting a compact footprint that makes installation and cleaning a breeze. It delivers high filtration accuracy and maintains stable effluent quality while supporting a large flow rate, which translates to low maintenance costs and efficient operation even under heavy pollutant loads. Its design features a straight-through medium channel that minimizes flow resistance and ensures convenient drainage. Additionally, both the interior and exterior surfaces are coated with a non-toxic epoxy resin according to AWWA C550, providing excellent corrosion resistance and making the strainer well-suited for demanding applications such as sewage systems.
The flanged ends of the Y strainer enable a secure, leak-proof connection to piping systems. These precisely machined flanges ensure uniform contact for a reliable seal, greatly reducing the risk of leaks. Moreover, the flanged joint simplifies installation and maintenance by allowing for easy bolting and removal during routine inspections and cleaning, thereby enhancing the overall durability and efficiency of the system. Generally, the flanged ends are cast integrally with the strainer body, with the flange dimensions furnished as per European (BS EN 1092-2) or ANSI/AWWA (ASME B16.1 Class 125 or ASME B16.42 Class 150) standards respectively.
